i get the feeling it’s past time to put something up here .. not sure what ..

i mentioned it previously, so perhaps i should finish the thought by saying that the city workers have settled and the strike is over. i never did get any more than an auto-response from my email to the union, and there were no follow-up stories in the news about the incident, whether the union disciplined their member or anything .. they just didn’t address it.

who knows how long it will last, better mention it before it changes ..
despite my sens melting down in the Finals there *coughs* they have come chargin out of the gate to start this season ~ they won all seven of their preseason games, then went 5-0 before dropping one to carolina, and they went 8-0 since then, good for an opening record of 13 wins and one loss. that set a club record of course, and, which i didn’t know, set an NHL record too ~ apparently no other team in History has had a winning-er start to a season, ever. *big grin* they said that the record was previously held by detroit at 12-1-1, which buffalo also matched last year. heh go sens!
during the offseason they fired their general manager, john muckler, although he is apparently still an advisor. at the time i was surprised by that ~ under his watch the sens finally made it over the top, makin it look easy and makin it to the Finals .. and this is the thanks he gets? *scratches head* mucks even brought in bryan murray as the head coach .. and it is bryan murray who now replaces him. they explained it that bryan used to be with the anaheim organisation during the time they were drafting and assembling the team that eventually ended up beating my sens in the Finals there .. they are gunning for lightning striking twice, i guess. a handful of guys aren’t back this year, and a couple of the new players brought in are from the ottawa area ~ one of whom said it was like a dream playin for his hometown team ~ and their enthusiasm seems to have given the team an extra bit of a spark ..
i’ve listened in when i can, although i missed a couple games there .. and on work nights i typically miss the first period, what with the time difference and waitin til everyone else goes home before i tune in. i am impressed with their ability to score at will it seems, running up big leads in quick succession and dominating the play .. although in a couple games they almost lost by sittin back a bit and lettin the other team back in it, leading 5-0 and comin away 6-4, or else going to overtime, or even a shootout .. lucky to get out alive ..
despite my lingering angst against the NHL i have enjoyed the ride so far .. heh it’s a good time to be a sens fan ..
the canucks have been struggling by comparison .. their own coach even called them stupid and lazy in the newspaper. one columnist started off with the question could it be that the canucks are just not that good? last year they played some amazing hockey, but they had to .. and this year just the same, the longer they are below .500 the longer they will have to play .700 or .800 hockey down the stretch just to make the playoffs .. and if they can’t play at that level now .. “could it be that last year was just a flash in the pan, and they really aren’t that good .. ?” heh is it just me or is it cold in here?

another thing is that i am still on the evening shift at work, 12:30 til 9pm. daylight savings or not, it’s still dark by 7 .. *sigh* and the rainy season has begun, although it’s not yet wall-to-wall *touches wood* ..
i had to take a pass on the chance to see henry rollins recently because no one could swap shifts with me .. and although the double-bill concert starring ozzy osbourne and rob zombie was happening on a saturday night, i had to take a pass to that because i had to buy a new pair of trousers for work instead ~ kind of a long story .. i was showing off with a utility knife at work and ended up cuttin a big gash in my old pair. *shakes head* all was not lost however, because whilst i was shopping i also picked up two pairs of camo socks ~ the end of a long road. as a kind of consolation prize, i did go out and get copies of black sabbath’s first two albums ~ i had never heard either one all the way through ~ and i must admit that i was honestly both surprised and impressed. heh i brought them in to work with me on hallowe’en too .. and they’ve been in rotation since .. who knew?
while i am on the subject of work ~ that same week in which i cut my trousers ~ heh we got in a shipment of paper, and i was helping to load it in and put it on the shelf. cases of paper, you know, with a plastic strap around the middle. we filled up the shelf and then started a stack on the floor. i had a case by the strap and was lifting it up to put it on the stack, which was about waist-high. i was just about there when the strap broke. the box fell to the ground and split open on one side .. and my hands around the strap, now free of the weight .. well .. heh i punched myself in the face .. twice. *blushes* .. and of course everybody saw it too. the next day i brought in my copy of uncle bob’s album recorded with The Band, the basement tapes .. i played the song called “million dollar bash” and had everyone on the floor when the lyric came up, delivered like only uncle bob can ~ i looked at my watch : i looked at my wrist : i punched myself in the face with my fist : i took my potatoes down to be mashed : then i made it on over to that million dollar bash!
one other thing too ~ it’s hard to find good people. recently, what with the economy quasi-booming and the olympics coming on in a few years, it’s what the papers are calling an employee’s market. i kid you not ~ restaurants n other small businesses have shut their doors because they can’t get people to work for minimum wage. one restauranteur even paid for people to move here from calgary to work for him. o_O
i don’t know what we’ve been paying the new people but uh .. first j. started, and she seemed really happy to be working for us, she caught on and everything was going fine, and then after a couple weeks she just didn’t show up one day. the next day we called her and her voice mailbox was full. a few days later my boss called her, and could leave a message, and did .. *shrugs* her hoodie is still hanging on the coat rack, after a few months ..
and then a couple weeks ago, a. started on the monday, and he too seemed to like it and pick up on things .. and then he too never showed up on tuesday and never called back. heh we joked that it must be a curse ~ the triangle ~ like the ground just opened n swallowed em up.

aside from that i’m havin to think about what’s worth mentioning in my own affairs .. i haven’t been up to too much lately ..
