Lost and found?

Nov 16, 2004 18:13

I can’t believe it, I can’t believe I’ve been to this town for two weeks and I lose my wallet. One the one and only night I go out no less. I noticed it was gone when I got to the hotel and had to pay the cab driver. I felt like an idiot looking for it. Thankfully I had some cash in my skirt pocket or I would have really been in trouble. I had ( Read more... )

I’d taken my time finding out where the lovely Ms. McClay was staying. It didn’t really take too long but I got interested when I found a file on her in the Wolfram & Hart database.

A witch, pretty powerful one at that. Not only that but she was in fact a member of the sunnydale gang that had gathered our attention a while back. She was one of the witches who helped to revive Angel’s slayer.

What a small world.

After I got off work I had a limo take me to the hotel. It wasn’t the nicest place ever. I was going to have to help her find a decent place to live.

Wait? What had I just thought? I tried to shake it and headed up to the room.

I knocked hard and lowered my voice. “Security. Miss McClay. Open up.”

I was still on hold when I heard a knock on the door. Security? What was going on...

I cradled the phone between my neck and shoulder and headed to the door. "Can I hel-" I dropped the phone when I saw who it was. "Are y-you stalking me?" I was more nervous then annoyed at the moment.

I started to shut the door in his face when I realised something. I stopped and looked at him. "How do you know my last name?"

"Sorry blondie, A Magician never reveals his secrets. There's really no need to replace anything." I leaned up against the door.

"Put on something nice and meet me downstairs in ten minutes if you know what's good for you." I gave her a half wicked grin.

I started to walk away down the hall.

"Oh, and I see where you get those eyes from." I called over my shoulder and headed into the elevator.

I stood there shocked. Did he just ask me out? No, he didn't ask me. He told me. I watched as he headed down the hall, I was ready to shut the door and just leave him sit there when he spoke.

"Oh, and I see where you get those eyes from."My eyes....he has my wallet. I opened my mouth to say something but he just waved to me as the elevator doors closed. I sighed and closed the door. I picked up the phone and put it back on the night stand ( ... )

I leaned against the limo and looked at my watch. She didn't seem like the high maintenance type.

I sighed and turned around. My cell phone rang shrilly and I groaned.

“What?” I growled into the phone.

“Lilah, What an imposition. What do you want?” She chattered in my ear about something Angel was up too. Sometimes I wondered what feelings she harbored for the vampire, then again, I didn’t really give a fuck either.

“Listen Lilah. As much as I’d love to stand here and listen to your insane babbling, I have a life. Don’t call me outside of the office anymore ok?”

I pulled the phone away from my ear as she yelled at me. I rolled my eyes and closed the phone. Go tell the senior partners, Like it’s going to make a difference.

I threw the phone into the window with a frustrated sigh.

I smooth out my skirt as I get out of the elevator, I turn and head for the front door. I stopped short when I saw him leaning up against a limo. A limo? Fancy. He's trying a bit much for someone who didn't care.

Then again he seemed to be the flaunting type. He was dressed nicely, I noticed. A bit more reserved then the other night but still relaxed looking. I saw him look up at him and there was a glint in his eye.

I stood in front of him, he looked quite annoyed. "Well, you look like you're in a great mood. Why don't we make this easy? You give me my wallet back and I'll go back up to my room." I held out my hand, palm side up, waiting for him to hand it back to me.

I looked at her and grinned before opening the door to the limo.

"This is the easy way Tara. Trust me."

I stood waiting for her to get into the limo, surveying her appearance without really hiding it. What did I care if she noticed me checking her out? All she was, was a means to an end anyway.

It's not as if I cared.

I gave her an amused grin in an attempt to hide my thoughts, who knew how powerful she was, she did help bring a slayer back from the dead after all.

"After you."

"I don't trust you." I said flatly as I saw him looking me over, making no attempt to hide it. Well, at least I know his attitude the other night wasn't an act.

I shook my head and sighed, there really wasn't a way out of this and it's honestly not like I had anything better to do tonight anyway. It is a free meal after all. Plus some aggravating amusement.

What an interesting night this was going to be. Oh yes.

I tucked my hair behind my ear and made my way past him and into the limo. I sat in the far corner, my hand near the handle just in case I had to try to get out.

I looked over and saw him get in behind me. "Why all this? Why not just give me my wallet and that be that?"

"I'm not surpised." I retored.

I sat down in the limo, leaned over her to get my phone, actually not trying to make her uncomfortable.

There was a message from Lilah flashing. I sighed and told the driver to go on and threw my phone out the window.

"Wow, I feel so much better." I purposely ignored her last comment and looked ahead of me.

"So Blondie, How are all your friends back in Sunnydale?"

I stiffened slightly, my hand moving towards the handle, as he leaned over me. I exhaled when he moved back, taking his phone with him.

I looked at him curiously when he dodged my question. Sunnydale? How did he know...oh, that's right. He has my wallet, he obviously looked in it.

I coughed and shifted in my seat, finding that there wasn't enough room between me and him. I didn't think that there could be enough room between us. "My name isn't Blondie." I said softly. I crossed my legs away from him and turned to look out the window, using this as my turn to ignore his question.

"Where are you taking me?" I glanced back at him for a moment before turning and looking back out the window.

"La Rue. It's a nice french restaurant downtown."

I looked out the window out at the L.A. skyline. It was so different from home, I would never really get use to it.

I glanced at her from the corner of my eye and then sighed and turned my full attention back to the window. I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing.

"La Rue. It's a nice French restaurant downtown."

I can't help but smirk slightly and mumble softly to myself. "Wine them and dine them...why am I not surprised something like that from a man like you." It wasn't a question. It was my observation.

I look over at him when he sighs. "Wha-" I shake my head and remain silent. I was tempted to ask him what was bothering him.

I hated to admit it but as much as he annoyed me he also interested me. There was something under that tough skin he put up. Part of me wanted to pick away the layers to see what was there.

The rest of me wanted him to turn around and bring me back to that hotel.

But I stayed quiet as we turned down one of the streets towards this high class restaurant. Why can't a guy try to impress a girl by just taking her out to some quiet fast food place and then head up to the beach? Nope, never gonna happen. They always have to spend a ton of money.

Things like that aren't impressive.

I finally looked over at her as the limo slowed to a stop.

"You have no idea what kind of man I am Tara. No one does." I moved and got out of the limo holding my hand out for her to take, even if I didn't expect her to take it.

The restuarant loomed over us. I'd never really liked the place, but it held a special place with the firm. A good deal of our auctions went on in the backroom. Not to mention that some of the delacies were a little more delecate than the patrons knew.
