The first half of today was spent being a slug. We watched two black and white Vincent Price movies and worked to find the energy to get up and do something. By afternoon we were headed downtown to look at some apartment buildings, one of which was very promising, and get milkshakes at Cold Stone. Later in the evening we also found a three bedroom house for rent, which I'm going to call about tomorrow. It had an absolutely enormous yard and was quaint and adorable.
As the sun set, we decided to drive out toward Menard County to sit in the fields and look at the stars. Didn't see much on the way there, but we passed a huge old farm house that looked deserted. Being me I suggested we stop and have a peek. Turned out the back door was open.. so we let ourselves in. It really was gorgeous, with very formal rooms on the first floor, four enormous rooms on the second, a spacious attic and a huge basement. The kitchen alone was the size of most living rooms.
All of it looked fairly old and very much abandoned, though only by two or three years. It had some structural damage, but nothing horrible that we could tell by our tiny flashlight. Just costly and in need of hard work. We fantasized about somehow buying or even renting the place and living on the first floor while trying to clean up the rest. Such a gorgeous old house. We're going to go back either during the day or with better flashlights to sneak in again and take a better look.
