On the whole, a good convention

Sep 04, 2008 22:31

I enjoyed the Republican National Convention. Some of it I caught on NPR, and some of it I watched on various TV/online networks, along with the endless supply of commentators and on-the-floor commentators and in-studio pundits.

I wished I had had more time to catch more of the convention, but then again, I wish I had more time to do a lot of things.

Tomorrow I will talk with my father-in-law about them. I'm glad I have him to talk politics with. He's not blind to the faults and foibles of the conservatives, and neither am I, and he is willing to give credit to the good intentions and successes of the other side when it is called for. For a while he left the Republican Party around 2000, and became involved in a third party, so it is not for nothing that he will criticize the GOP.

But tomorrow, I think, there will be mostly praise. Praise for Sarah Palin's great introductory speech, cheers for the call to work together and bring down the rancorous tone a bit (even if it came after more red meat than several local steakhouses could handle).

On to the debates!

Oh, and thank you for keeping me on as your conservative friend. :)
