What do you do when your kid wakes you up at 3:30AM and you can't go back to sleep? You update, of course. So many happenings have been happening!
The girls started attending the same school this year which is phenomenal for my otherwise whacked out time management skills. Tink is doing extremely well in 1st grade and loves her teachers and new (and old) friends. She was even recognized in the first 9 weeks (they go for 9 and then off for two) for being such a good classmate and student by her teacher. The Little Bit, who turned 10(!) in October is struggling with math, but absolutely flourishing with her other subjects. We're working on it, but it's hard to crack that barrier that she puts up when she reaches her point of "I'm done." Slowly, but surely we'll get there.
They're both participating in Choir this year through an Episcopal church and are having a great time. They have performed with a jazz trio, a retirement community, and at the season opener of our local area's hockey team. Tink is playing soccer again and LOVES it! Her abilities have improved so much from last year. She hasn't scored a goal, yet, but is doing well on defense and has been awesome as goalie. Sports are definitely emerging as an outlet for her right now, so we're going to try and foster that development.
D and I bought a new house in a suburb that's actually closer to where we work and to the grandparents. No, we haven't sold our other house, but we're hopeful that will happen soon. The new house needs a lot of updating so while we have some time, we're removing wallpaper, painting, changing out floors, and scraping the funky popcorn texture off the ceilings. We also have to get one of the big trees out front cut down, which makes me incredibly sad, but it's too close to the house and we're concerned it could cause some major foundation issues in a few years. They joys of home-ownership, y'all.
Work is going okay. There's been a couple of opportunities available, but I wasn't successful in moving into those positions. More changes are coming, so we'll have to wait and see what happens. Until then, I will continue to do my best and work on the skills that need improvement. Right now, I'm just happy to be employed and to be able to contribute to my family's needs.
