[june 9th] [original] homecoming 31_days

Jun 09, 2008 23:43

Title: Homecoming
Day/Theme: June 9 - foul, fetid, fuming, foggy... filthy
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Driel, Maya
Rating: PG
Words: 504
Notes: So if you got back and read my older stuff, Maya is the same as Medea. I just realized that Maya fits a lot better than the name of a woman famed for killing her kids (even though it used to fit! But no longer!).

When the door opens wildly, he expects to see his brother's pale, bony form; he feels a slight pang in his heart until he quickly decides to push it away. Instead, he sees her. He notes that her navy blue hair now reaches her elbows and that her body has obviously matured a great deal. Her eyes flash and her left eyebrow twitches briefly, and she contorts her lips into an irritated grimace that he likes to think is especially reserved for him.

"You reek," she states plainly even though her face betrays the tone of her voice.

"I know, Maya," he replies with a bit of hidden humor in his voice as he shakes his head violently and Maya takes a step back to avoid the amount of sticks, leaves, and dust that fall from his hair to the ground. She notices that his shirt has tears and moderate sized blood stains and raises an eyebrow in suspicion.

"How long have you gone without bathing yourself?" He stops his violent shakes at her question and lifts his head to meet her eyes. Maya lets out a small 'tch' when he shoots her smirk which she has not seen for about two years.

"A couple of days I believe. I don't know," he says as he puts a hand on his shoulder and swings his arm in a circle. "The days start to run together when you're in the wilderness."

"Honestly!" She closes the distance between their bodies as she traces the dark circles under his eyes and the cuts of differing lengths decorating his face. Driel's body stiffens briefly but he soon relaxes under her touch. "Where have you been?"

"Growing up," he whispers as he rubs his dirty hands on his pants.

Maya's gaze glides down to his hands and she notices that they have little patches of burns of varying degrees. Her gaze quickly races back to his face to ask a question but he chuckles and says, "And it looks like you've grown up quite a bit too huh?"

Driel's hands slide up to the back of her skirt for emphasis.

To say the least, he isn't surprised when her expression goes through a rapid change of honest confusion back to the volatile irritation she originally directed at him. She raises her hand to his face and a jet stream of water assaults his face that makes him stagger backwards a couple of feet. Even though he knows that he shouldn't, Driel can't help but laugh as Maya turns away from him and begins to walk away from him.

"You? Grow up? My foot!" She turns her head back to face him and under normal circumstances, the glare on her face would strike him cold; right now, he’s too busy laughing at her actions. "And go take a bath! Maybe it’ll make you a better man!"

"I’ve missed you!" His joyful exclamation earns him a frustrated huff and a violent whip of her hair as she stomps away from him.
