My Baby's Got A Secret
Holy crap I don't know how it happened, but I somehow spent the whole day, and I'm not kidding when I say the whole day, reading all of Madonna's wikipedia entries and watching almost every single video she ever made on YouTube.
I don't even like Madonna that much! "Take A Bow" came on my computer and I realized I knew nothing about mid 90s Madonna and before I knew it, my order obsession kicked in and I went through her entire discography.
I will say this...Madonna doesn't seem capable of making an entirely good album except for one (Ray of Light) which is the only one I know well. The biggest, earliest songs annoy me, so when I went and download about 20 songs, I ignored "Like A Virgin," "Holiday" and "Papa Don't Preach." I did get "Like A Prayer" which has always been amazing, "Borderline" and "Dress You Up" because I am human.
I surprisingly like the Madonna I knew the least about. Despite "Justify My Love" being nothing more than orgasmic poetry reciting, I kind of love it. And the Erotica period does scare me, but "Bad Girl" is something I didn't know existed despite having a really sweet video by David FINCHER (!) who directed like 5 Madonna videos. I decided Bedtime Stories is my second favorite album because it is the R&B one and "Secret," "Take a Bow," "Bedtime Story," (Which Bjork wrote! Who knew?) and "Human Nature" are all among her best songs ever. I think I may post "Human Nature's" video now.
Why did I do this? And why do I think "American Life" doesn't sound so bad? And as epic as "Hung Up" is, the rest of "Confessions" really bites. These are the things I learned today. I don't know why I did it, and I certainly don't need knowledge of another gay icon to put a chink in my heterosexuality, but I guess I just need trivia like food. WHY DID I WRITE ABOUT THIS? THIS IS WHY NO ONE CARES MARCUS.
