The audio jack for my 160 GB iPod Classic is broken. The damn thing isn't even two years old.

Took it to the Apple store only to have them tell me my one year warranty is expired and that they'll fix it for me for $200.

Um, no.

This is why I hate Apple and absolutely loathe everything that has to do with it.

Normally I would look into purchasing a new player but my father bought me this one just before he died, so it has sentimental value to me. I am reluctant to part with it so soon. Instead, I think I'm just going to purchase a headphone amplifier that plugs into the charger, which will hopefully make it last a few more years. When that finally breaks (and it will, because that's what happened to my last iPod) and becomes a fancy brick, I'll consider my other options.

The other choice I have is to buy the replacement parts and fix it myself, but the iPod Classic models are especially notorious for being hard to open and incredibly easy to damage if you're not careful about it. While I'm sure I could do it, it also costs $50 plus shipping and taxes, whereas the amplifier itself only sets me back $20.

But if I manage to successfully replace the audio jack I can guarantee myself another two, maybe three more years with the device, whereas if I buy the amplifier, I can really only guarantee myself one. Hmm.

In the end, the only real decision I've made so far is that this is supremely annoying. That, and that I hate Apple for screwing people out of their money.

Ugh.
