I think I have half the damn road stuck in my side.
[The gravel rash went deep, her jacket and pants were scuffed and torn from the landing and the bruising was already starting to show. Not to mention, she was probably up for a cracked rib or two. Throw in that her head already hurt from the night out before and one could say it was definitely not Grapple's day.]
[Shepard's a fairly common surname where she comes from, though she's gotten so far into the habit of introducing it over her given name -- plain old Jane -- that it sounds odd to be called Jane by anybody. Extremely intimate.]
Then you're lucky to be alive and kicking, Grapple. This might sound odd off the bat, but are you human or other?
I was born on Earth. Look, you should probably read the letter Deior left in your record. Get back to me when you do and let me know what I can do to help.
Not without something to back it up, I certainly hope not.
But it gives you a basic understanding of the attitude Deior's got. The people who work here genuinely believe, or want us to believe, that they're doing us a favor. That's who you have to deal with from here on in.
Guards, medics and more. I know for a fact there's a man who can go from wolf to man, and presumably back again. Saw it with my own eyes.
The medic's name is Sycora. She's a good sort, for all that she doesn't really have to be. One of my crew is non-human and she saved his life-- he wouldn't be able to eat or drink anything here without her help. That's why I asked what you were.
They put a man on the moon and a probe on Mars before the world went to hell.
After that, scientists got a little distracted by what was going on on the ground instead of in the sky.
[A pause. A groan.]
Hey, you couldn't point me in the direction of that medic, could you? I've got blood everywhere.
[She's been taking care of things as best she can, but there's a fair bit of gravel that's not going to come out easy. Not to mention her shirt isn't exactly the best bandage out there.]

I'll live though.
[That better not scar. 8(]
Who're you?

Shepard. I'm stuck here, same as you are. You must have gotten snatched up at a rude time.

[For once it's nice to meet someone with a title as odd sounding as hers.]
A truck figured he'd fight me for the same patch of road. Can say that he won, if only cause of his size.
[Oh shit. Where the hell is her bike?]
I uh... got up close and personal with the road.

Where'd you say you were from?
[Suspicion. She has it.]

['Born on Earth.' Uh huh. Grapple does as she's asked and reads the letter. A minute or two later, she speaks again.]
You don't expect me to believe this stuff, do you?

[She moves to stand and cringes again. It could be worse, yes, but it still hurts like hell.]
What about a medic?

[Just look at her adoptive family.]
You're saying non-human friends and that Earth was were you were born. What are you then? Some kind of SPAAAAACE space astronaut or something?

Always a nice feeling.]
I'm a marine. From space, yeah. I get the feeling that's not too common where you're from?
