[From the journal system comes the voice of a rather angry young lady. Her words are clipped, English, though her German accent is a little more prominent than usual.]
This is a sick fucking joke, isn't it. First it's a boat, then a stupid island and now, a castle. My God the creativity is just skyrocketing today.
[That is some delicious monotone

Wh-who are you looking for, exactly?
[With even more hesitance, Bryn adds in German.]
Perhaps I have heard their name?
Reply
Oh... huh.
Uh, Sean, Patrick... Hell, anyone from that stupid boat.
[She frowns at the journal.]
Hey, do I know you?
Reply
I do not believe so, but my name is Bryn and it's nice to meet you...Grapple.
[Bryn's beginning to think that her voice is just one of those kinds that sounds like someone else to everyone.]
As for your friends, I haven't heard anyone by those names yet, but I'll be sure to keep an ear out for them in case they do arrive. You were all on a boat together?
Reply
Fuck. Okay, hi Bryn.
I was in Germany. Got into an accident with a truck and when I woke up, I was on a ship. The last I recall, we'd made landfall and things weren't so crash hot.
And now I wake up here.
Reply
[Fuck? What was that for?]
It sounds like you've been through quite a lot. This must be quite a shock on top of everything else you've been through...
Reply
Sorry just... yeah. Having a bad year, I guess.
[She sounds a little amused at that. Grapple is making an attempt to pep herself up.]
So do you live here or did you wake up like I did?
Reply
[And she really is. It sounds as if Grapple has been through quite a bit, and Bryn knows all too well how unsettling it is to have your world flipped around on you.]
I woke up here like you did, though perhaps...three months ago? Before I had been living in California...up in the mountains. Now I suppose I should say I live here.
Reply
[Not from the same world as Grapple, then.]
That was in America, right? There uh, isn't too much left of it where I'm from. The war and the virus and all that jazz.
Reply
[Time and dimensional differences are confusing. :C]
I'm afraid I don't know which war you are referring to, however, or anything about a virus...
[There is something in Bryn's tone that suggests she's wary about learning more, however. Even believing it's not her California isn't enough to help her push away worry about Gunn and where he might be.]
Reply
Consider yourself lucky then. Fingers crossed that your world doesn't make the same mistakes mine did.
[And she means it. The conversation is a little depressing, so Grapple makes an attempt at veering it down a happier path.]
Say, your German is pretty good. Where did you learn it?
Reply
[A happier path would be lovely, although Grapple's line of questioning does lead into a topic that Bryn isn't as comfortable with.]
My family is originally from Germany. Mother and Father insisted that my brother and I learn. We had tutors and several relatives over that helped a great deal with our accents...
Reply
It definitely paid off. You're better than most that I've met who know the language.
[Grapple makes a thoughtful sound.]
Any idea where I could find a shower? Or something to eat?
Reply
Thank you, that's quite a compliment from a native-speaker.
[She practically leaps on the chance to talk about something else, and switches back to English temporarily.]
There is a small...sort of thing that serves as a shower in your room. A larger place down on the bottom floor but neither has hot water.
Reply
Alrighty, cool. That's... kind of awesome really. I mean, except for the no hot water part.
[A shower is a shower and she'll take what she can get.]
No where that I can get some?
Reply
[Bryn just hasn't had the guts to try them yet. She should, even just in a chemise, but instead she's been stubbornly sticking to cold-water bathing.]
They're not far from the barracks.
Reply
[That's the first real smile all day.]
Oh yeah, I am so going to check that out. Right after I look around, or something. There's others here, right? More like you and me?
