It's the season and I love to complain so it's time to watch all the Oscars movies! So far I've seen seen Mank and Nomadland, tonight was:
The Trial of the Chicago Seven - Aaron Sorkin ⭐✰✰✰✰
One thing I'll say about Aaron Sorkin is he always manages to surprise me: he somehow crams more smug prickery into 2 hours than I can ever properly anticipate. The movie clips along for the most part, going down easy, and mercifully free of your typical Billboard Top 100 of the 60s needle drops (though the original score sounds an awful lot like a placeholder for something). I was ready for a solid 2-star affair, but much like the dramatized trial itself, things crash and burn in an upset. After a series of increasingly annoying scenes where white people stand up to other white people about racism, the movie culminates in one of the most hilariously awful satire-truly-is-dead endings I've seen in years. The Sork has done it again. Kiss my ass!
