Soft Light

Apr 04, 2008 01:39

Pairing: Raymond Lam/Myolie Wu, hints of Raymond Lam/Linda Chung
Fandom: -
Genre: Romance?, AU
Rating: G
Summary: Raymond ignores the spark of affection within him, convincing himself that the only link between him and Myolie, is his unborn child.
Disclaimer: Not even going to bother.
A/N: For my fellow Rayolie fans, the bulk of whom were waiting for little Hiu Sing. There was no little Hiu Sing, but let's not crush our dreams for a Rayolie baby (the genes are too good to resist XD).
A/N2: Raymond and Myolie are not married. These are preliminary thoughts for a fic I was/am planning to write. Because I don't publish multi-chapter fics until they are completed, it may never see the light of day, so I write chapters that can stand on their own. This, is one of them.

A stream of light caught his eye as he ascended the stairs. What could she be doing, awake at this hour? Curious, he pushed the door open the moment he reached it. Nowadays, they needed no formality. Having been friends for so long, and being used to her being under his roof, formalities were unnecessary and even tiresome.

She wasn't awake. He found her lying on her back, her head slightly turned to the side, her full lips parted slightly. He watched as her chest steadily rose and fell with each intake of breath, surprising himself at how glad he was just to know that she was alive. These little things that didn't matter not too long ago, were of the utmost importance to him now, and he couldn't adequately explain why.

He reached down for the book she had lightly grasped in one of her hands, and put it quietly down on the side-table, amused at how her fingers remained slightly curled. Kneeling at her bedside he grazed them with his own, before resting his hand on her swollen belly. He still couldn't believe there was life in there. But more than that, he couldn't believe that life was part of him. At that thought, his heart swelled with an odd mix of pride and affection, and instinctively he planted a light peck on his baby's current home.

And Hang Yee...he stopped himself. He was grateful to her. What more could there be? What more except, except...

He found her more beautiful these days. She had a certain charm to her, he knew, but he never considered her to be as attractive as his Linda, though they shared the same genes. His Linda. Could he even call her that anymore? He wasn't sure what Hang Yee would think. He knew how she simultaneously encouraged and discouraged him over the years, her duty as a sister and her loyalty as a friend making it difficult for her to choose sides. What would she think now? Sure, her opinion was important then, but even more so now.

He leant forward, carefully catching a tendril of hair in his fingers so as to touch her, but not wake her. No, she wasn't as beautiful, he told himself. It was just a temporary fascination. That answer satisfied him -- for a moment.

With that he laid a sincere kiss on her cheek, switching the light off as he got up. Walking out in pitch darkness, he chose not to dwell on the longing in his heart that burnt all the more brightly.

one-shot, raymond lam/myolie wu
