Of course LJ is undergoing maintenance during the ONE time this week I want to post. And of course it’s running late. Whatev.
I actually had a semi-decent day today. I’m positive that it has a lot to do with the fact that Damian received his tax return, so we are doing much better. Rent will be paid. I am completely thrilled about that. But also, Comcast will get paid, credit cards will get a chunk put down on them, I was able to get groceries, and… We went to get my video card! Whoo hoo! Before I go on, though, I would like to add that I am getting better and better about getting the groceries we need for now and not spending a whole lot. I went to WinCo with a $40 budget and left only spending about $35. And I have food for breakfast, lunches, and dinners all week long. Score twenty brownie points for me. :-)
So Damian decided to head to Fry’s today to get my video card, but none of his computer savvy friends could go with him. I told him that we should go together - what a concept! We decided to make a nice little trip of it - enjoy our time at Fry’s, get a bite to eat, and then head back to YC so he can go back to work. I have to say that Fry’s is seriously the adult version of a Toys ‘R’ Us. (Maybe it’s another kids’ version of it too because Tariah and Thayana were drooling over things during the whole trip.) I saw (and caressed) the beautiful
MacBook Pro that I will eventually have for all of my photography needs (major drool!). After catching some very concerned looks from some of the customer service reps in the computer area, I decided I should probably stick to the more safe items - the ones I could afford. I scored an awesome video card, a 4 GB memory stick, a 50-pack of CD-R’s and a copy of Reservoir Dogs - all for under a hundred. Whoo hoo! Afterward, we went to have an early dinner at On The Border since Damian hadn’t been there before. Not great Mexican food, but we enjoyed it. Part of the reason that we went there instead of B.J.’s (which is our fave) is because Damian knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist B.J.’s array of fantastic brews, and he had to work at 7pm.
During our trip to Fry’s, Tariah reminded me that she would like to have a
Nintendo DS Lite for her birthday. That is something I am totally into because a lot of the games are geared toward learning, and it would be a good thing for her to have on road trips and such. She decided that she wanted a pink one, too. Who knew? So I looked everything up when I got home, and it turns out that the system alone is $130! Goodness! I talked to Blaine about it, and he told me he would buy the system and the accessories if I would buy a bunch of games for her. Score! She is getting some AWESOME gifts this year! (Might I add that it’s so nice to have Blaine out of debt? :-)) I added the system and the games to her
Amazon Wish List, so I am sure that I will get some help with that too. I am so excited! I also get her a swimsuit for her birthday each year, and at this point I am trying to decide between the two suits below. Might I add that Old Navy has HORRIBLE choices for swimsuits these days? Ick! These two are from Target (anyone up for a vote?):
I would also LOVE to get her a Polaroid camera. I am considering purchasing one on Ebay. I know some pros who shoot Polaroid for the nostalgia combined with the artistic aesthetic that comes with that medium. I say, if she's already interested in photography, why not develop that interest into something she can have fun with and be proud of?
Going to go out to the river tomorrow evening to shoot with my friend Melissa. She wants to work with her camera, and I figure I might get some decent shots too. Maybe even some that would be good enough to print!
Another random piece of news: WaMu/JP Morgan Chase emailed me to let me know that, "After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that you have not been selected to interview for this position." Whatever. I'm going on the assumption that they found me rather over-qualified. NOT going to beat myself up over it.
Big surprise to me - turns out that I LOVE Rock Band. Singing - I love. Drumming - I like a lot. Guitar-ing - just like Guitar Hero. Playing it with your friends and scoring major points together while doing it? VERY fun. Looking forward to some more of that, beer pong, and flip cup this weekend.
Tonight Damian is going to attempt to put the pieces of my two computers together into one super kick-some-major-portrait-ass machine. I am looking forward to this and PRAYING that things go smoothly with the conversion. I have had so much drama with computers lately that I am just sick of it. On the up side in my little photography world, I just heard back from a prospective client who intends to have her celebration in LAS VEGAS on May 9th. I want to go to Vegas!!!!! (Never been! **Crosses fingers**)
