Your keen little observer has probably watched you pay a store clerk or obtain money from an automated teller. She's getting the idea that money has a use - to get things. Although the finer points of fiscal know-how are still a few years down the line, this initial understanding means she's ready to hear about the different kinds of money - coins and bills - and that they stand for different amounts.
Tariah has been doing this for about a year now. More specifically, she understands that the money generally comes from the bank, and when Mommy says that she is out of money, Tariah suggests a trip to the bank. When I tell her that I don't have anything in my account, she tells me to just go to the ATM and get it. :-) She can recognize some of the coins, but I haven't really worked very hard on it with her. Perhaps it is time to start!
Orange, blue, green, red, purple, yellow … learning colors is fun and easy for most preschoolers. The trick is lots of practice. Fortunately, color is everywhere, so you can easily drop references to it into conversations, asking your child to bring you the blue socks or remarking that you're serving him green peas on his yellow plate. During a walk, see how many red objects you can find together.
Yeah... Thayana has known her colors for at least a year and a half now. Not even going to go there. We still go over them every now and then, but we are working on bigger and better things right now. Like surfing the web. :-P
