Fun, fun

Man, it has been a rough couple of weeks with my girls. They have pretty much been sick the past few weeks, so we have been stuck here in the apartment and people are thinking we have fallen off the edge of the Earth. Arg. I know they hate being stuck here, and I would rather take them to the park or something too! Tariah and Thayana both got over being sick last week, and today - my only day off with them this week - Tariah is incredibly constipated. Poor girl. She doesn't want to eat any fruit, so I gave her some apple juice to see if it will help loosen things up. She is having so much discomfort right now. :-( If I had known this was going to happen, I certainly would not have fed her any yogurt for breakfast. That's what sucks about having kids that won't eat much meat - you have to feed them lots of protein-filled dairy and then one of them gets constipated! Arg!

Yesterday I took the girls to the doctor for their 4-year and 18-month checkups. Things went ok - Tariah is healthy as a horse, of course. Doctor said they won't even address the bed-wetting until she is six, so we have to just ride it out until then. She didn't like the doctor examining her private areas, but he was quick about it. She is now 44 inches tall and 49 pounds! That's over the 95th percentile in each area. She finished up all of her vaccines that she will need until she is eleven, so I am sure she will be pleased with that. She was afraid to get them done, so she put up quite the fight when the nurse and I held her down. Afterward she was fine, though.

Thayana is a different story. Although her weight is starting to follow a more normal pattern for a child her age, she is still pretty small at 26 pounds. Her one-year-old cousin is 30 pounds. :-) She is in the 95th percentile for her height, though - 34 1/2 inches tall. She had a head circumference of 50 cm, which doesn't mean much to me but I thought I would add it anyway. The one thing that is worrying me the most is that the doctor said he thought he heard a murmur in her chest, so he is going to schedule her for an echo cardiogram. He says it could just be the valves in her heart fluttering or something, but it could also be a hole. If it is a hole that won't close up on its own, she will need surgery. How freaky. I told Blaine, and I think he is totally freaked out. Poor guy.

Both girls are doing very well in other areas. Both are very artistic with Play-Doh and coloring pictures. Tariah is beginning to navigate websites well on her own - she spends a lot of time on PBSkids.com, and she loves it. I have to fight her for the computer sometimes. :-) Thayana's speech is still exploding like crazy. She says SOOOO much - I just need to break out the video camera. And she still at that sweet baby age, so there is so much to love.
