Do you like to read short stories? Why? Please give your opinion on your view about short stories, and if possible write a short summary about your favorite short story.
I love to read short stories because they are like a miniature novel that has all of the same elements of a novel like characters, setting, plot, and theme. I am not an avid reader so whenever I get a chance to read a short story, I will take the first opportunity to read it because you can always find a message in the story even though it’s not a complete novel. I think short stories are a great way to expand your mind and help your creativeness and imagination all at the same time because a story is only what you make of it, and it is slightly different for every reader due to their education, ideology, and most of all their individual personality. My favorite short story is probably the most well known out of all other short stories. The Odyssey is my favorite short story and it started out as a story told by a man called Homer. The story starts with the Trojan War and the Greeks capturing Troy, and their journey back to their home land and the struggles the main character, Odysseus, must go through to get back home to see his wife Penelope. While on his journey back to his mainland, Odysseus gets held against his will by a giant creature called Calypso. After he escapes from the creature, Hermes, a messenger sent from Zeus tells Calypso to let him go, but this angers Athena, the goddess of war. Later on, when Odysseus sets sail back on sea, Poseidon, the god of the sea, destroys his ship and nearly kills him. Odysseus washes up on land a day later and he is greeted by the Phoenicians. Next they find out his true identity and immediately send him back to him homeland, but before they do Athena uses her magical powers to cast a mist around Odysseus that will protect him and turns him into an old man as a disguise. When he finally gets home, he is still disguised as an old man and he talks to his wife Penelope after many years of not seeing her. In the end, Zeus makes a huge lightning bolt in the blue afternoon sky and the servants take this as a sign as the end of their abusive lifestyle. In conclusion, Odysseus is happy and the story ends with him taking his wife, Penelope, to bed.
