1. If you're not careful, mixing can almost always totally remove the initial feeling you got from a track. I think that 80% of everything I've ever recorded sounded best before it went through a mixing process. I am determined not to have that happen, even if my album ends up coming out with all manner of blips on.
2. I have watched about 1 hour of 'last choir standing' and whilst I usually hate those type of shows, because I completely love choirs, I have enjoyed it. And it's made me very excited about my 60 piece choir (every tuesday after school) that I take over running from September. They are all 8-10 year olds, but that only makes it more of a challenge. Feel free to suggest songs for me to teach them. I am trying to strike a healthy balance between what they will want to sing (High School Musical/horrible 'Isn't it Ironic VILENESS)...and things that they will still love, but will have a lot more scope for a lovely performance and not turn them into shouty precious little nightmares. So far last year I did a couple of da doo ron ron type songs, both with guitar and singers, and a cracking version on the steel pans. It is (hopefully) my job to expand their horizons beyond horrific American power anthems. Obviously the problems with some songs that would be great are the lyrics. 'Walk on the Wild side' backing vocals may have to mixed into a nursery rhyme, just for fun.
3. Three days in the studio now. I have finally sorted out my mac so it works better. I used three methods.
AppZapper is a great free download that really really helped. Got rid of any applications I haven't used in 3-5 years, and it shows you exactly what is what. Excellent and super-easy.
I deleted lots of photos.
I deleted music I never listen to.
4. I love the West Wing so much, it is the TV series I would take to a desert island, bar none.
