I am very happy and verging on thinking me and Gemma have won some sort of competition run by the Gods to ensure us a relatively secure little future. (Oh hang on, nothing is secure, and there are no Gods.) I'm sure they (the non Gods) will take as much as they're giving without even blinking an eye one day, when we least expect it, but for now...
Gemma has been for an interview and GOT the job-and the JOB, is a secondary school drama teacher at a school in Stoke Newington! She is partially unqualified (as am I) and will get more qualified as she goes along. This means we will both be a bit skint for the first couple of years, BUT it means we are both teachers, and will have all our holidays together, and be able to really get stuck into what we love doing without one of us (her) being stuck in a miserable hellish hell hole with vile putrid nasty bastards being cruel and angry all day. She worked so hard for this job, even faxing in the form 3 times and driving it to the school too as the fax machine went wrong-the secretary ended up with 76 pages of Gemma's CV and application form all in the wrong order. She had to teach a class today as part of the process and they said she did a blinding job, which I know she did as she is bloody brilliant. I am so pleased that she can finally stop doing everything that makes her sad and small-feeling, and do this instead.
I am overjoyed, and feel amazed that we have somehow got ourselves to the second line in snakes and ladders. I shall continue to throw the dice, and keep my fingers crossed for the next go.
