Authors notes: My last fic was happy and smiley for the first time ever..sadly i have reverted back to my old ways. I do have a small plot bunny dancing around inside my brain for a fluffy story. It's just the black bunny beat it to the finish line. Enjoy!

Her tears were dry as she closed the door behind her. Walking down the stairs she paused at the landing window. Peering out of the frosted glass she watched as the snow blanketed the trees, painting a delicate and peaceful image of winter. Thinking back over the years she tried to recall how many times she’d sat at this spot, blanket covered, hot mug of tea in hand, watching the world go by.

A smile crept across her lips as she thought of the occasions Severus had joined her. How they’d stayed up late to talk by the candle light. In later years they were often accompanied by their two children. Faces pressed against the glass trying to catch a glimpse of that ever elusive Santa Clause and his host of reindeer companions. A small chuckle escaped her as she recalled the first sight of her husband dressed in red, white beard and black boots to match. He scoffed about it every year, yet always insisted that it was he who played the part. The tradition even carried on to their grandchildren, but not this year.

Her smile faded and her eyes glazed, the memories felt suddenly sharp and cold to her skin. At that moment she felt her sons hand rest upon her shoulder. She turned to look into his face, as always it was just like his fathers. Tonight though his eyes were full of concern, worry etched into every line. “Come on , let’s go downstairs by the fire, it’s freezing up here.” he said. It was cold, now that she thought of it. More so than usual, as though Severus’s spirit had taken the warm glow from the old place. She found this almost amusing since the rest of the world only saw his frosty demeanour. Turning to her son she smiled a sad smile before uttering “ You’re right son, I think it’s going to be the coldest winter we’ve had in years.”
