The laboratory was in an absolute state. Steam rose from six pewter cauldrons, forming a waist-high layer of fog and mimicking the view of the lake that morning perfectly.
“What’s going on?” she called.
The sound of chopping ceased for a moment and then began again with renewed vigour.
“Oktoberfest,” he grunted.
“So?”
“Root ginger, cane sugar, sea salt, Columbian coffee beans, willow bark, blackcurrant juice and magic.”
“Ah.”
“If you want that Portkey to Zanzibar for two you’re so keen on, I suggest you get your pretty little arse over to the pestle and mortar.”
“People pay?”
“People beg.”
