Severus Snape silently walked from the room. He'd given Hermione a potion for sleep. He poured himself a generous measure of Firewhiskey, and welcomed it's burn. It had been six weeks since he'd brought Hermione here. He believed he could repair her damaged mind. He'd been an arrogant fool. The Legillimency allowed him entrance into Hermione's mind. It didn't perpare him for what he found. Physical and psychological torture by her once allies, had driven Hermione to escape within herself. She'd told them nothing. But, they'd broken her. She'd done it for him. He crushed the glass he held, not feeling the pain where it cut his hand. He'd find her.

Hermione heard Severus' voice again. It's not real, she repremanded herself. She's been deceived before. It was safe here, deep inside her mind. The Order could do vile torturous things to her body. She wasn't there. She was aware of their cunning. She didn't know if they used charms of spells to befuddle her mind. She was smarter and faster. She avioded, and hid deeper, from these new invasions. Their newest torture was almost unbearable. They were creating nightmares. These nightmares were experiences of the tortures she's successfully hidden from before. One was starting now. She screamed in her mind.

Hermione's scream had Severus instantly at her side. It was the first sound she'd made. "Hermione," he said. She quieted. "Hermione, it's Severus. You're safe, Hermione." She fell silent. "Legillimens." He was in her thoughts again. "Hermione, you are safe. There is no one to hurt you. It is just us."
Hermione ached to believe. Just her and Severus. But, she mustn't.
"Hermione, I will play hide and seek in here forever, if I must. But, I would rather actually be with you."
Hermione appeared. "You are real?" she asked.
"Yes. Come with me," he said.
Hermione woke in Severus's arms.
