Harry and Ron tried to look sullenly at Snape's feet rather than towards Hermione, who was standing behind him with a look of profound concentration on her face as she performed non-verbal magic. They didn't dare give the game away.
Snape strode forward. He barely faltered when his trademark billowing robes failed to express themselves as he swept away down the corridor.
"I told you so! I said it had to be a spell!" The boys crowed. Only Hermione noticed as, from the shadows, pale hands appeared and gave her a slow, silent, handclap.
