PART 1
It was horrible.
For twenty years he had lurked in the shadows, the Dark Lord’s “most trusted” advisor. Until quite recently, only he (and Dumbledore) knew the truth.
Twenty years. Twenty years of his life in solitude. Alone. Bitter.
And just how, pray tell, was he rewarded for his unselfishly devoted service to the Order? Why, by receiving a life sentence in Azkaban, of course!
He would still be there now, if it weren’t for her…
Who would have thought that insufferable know-it-all, Hermione Granger, would go to such lengths to clear his name? He certainly had never expected it.
PART 2
His face had remained chilled as steel when Hermione took the stand. ‘Great. Another character witness to reinforce what a monster I am…’
“Hermione Granger… that is your given name, is it not?” Auror Dawlish had begun.
“Yes.” She had answered.
“You were a student of Mr. Snape’s, were you not?” He had asked.
“Professor Snape. And, yes, I was.” She had answered.
“What, if anything, can you tell us about your former Professor, Miss Granger?” He had asked.
This was the part where Severus had begun to tune out the testimony. That is, until everyone present gasped in shock.
PART 3
Severus could not believe his ears. ‘What did she just say?’
In her calmest, most collected voice, Hermione answered Auror Dawlish’s question.
“I can tell you that he is one hundred percent innocent of any and all charges, and shall be released immediately.” She had said.
“Excuse me?” Auror Dawlish had asked with a slack jaw.
Hermione had risen from her place on the stand and extracted a vial full of silvery liquid from the inner pocket of her robes.
“This,” she stated, “is a collection of memories that the late Professor Dumbledore has left me for this very occasion.”
PART 4
After a thorough review of the evidence that Hermione had provided, Severus Snape had been set free. To his dismay and frustration, Hermione Granger had disappeared after the trial. No one seemed to know where she had gone. It took Severus 3 long years to track her down.
She had dismissed him at first. Told him she was only doing as Dumbledore had asked. The only problem was, she wouldn’t look him in the eye. Eventually she had no choice, though. Of course, it would have been hard not to look at him, with his lips pressed firmly against hers.
PART 5
Severus Snape had met his match. He and Hermione were married less than six months after their first kiss. Of course, Neither Potter nor Weasley was in attendance at the wedding. They would never condone the marriage of their once-best friend to their surly ex-Potions Professor. Severus considered their absence a wedding present.
Just when Severus thought his life had finally turned around, he got the owl.
Severus,
Hermione has been taken to St. Mungo’s. You must get there immediately. Room 205.
-Minerva.
Severus raced to the hospital. When he arrived he heard Hermione… HIS Hermione… screaming in unnistakeable agony.
PART 6
She was screaming. She was in pain. And there was nothing he could do about it.
His entire life flashed before his eyes. Before Hermione there was loneliness, fear and resentment. The day she reentered his life, however, everything changed. His family inheritance was returned to him. He received the Medal of Merlin, First Class that he deserved. Most importantly, he now had a purpose in life- to find Hermione and make her his… forever.
Severus was pulled from his reverie by the sound of someone speaking. He turned toward the voice to see a nurse standing there, head bowed.
PART 7
Severus’ heart pounded. The screaming had stopped. What had happened? Why hasn’t he heard a single noise from Hermione’s bed in nearly a minute?
The room remained silent for several more seconds, until Severus heard the cries once more. He turned toward Hermione. Was he relieved by the screaming, or more worried than before? He turned back toward the nurse.
The woman gave him a uncomfortable look, and then the doctor began to speak.
“Mr. Snape-”
“Professor Snape.” Hermione interrupted with a frown.
“Professor Snape,” the doctor corrected himself. Hermione smiled.
“Professor Snape, I’d like you to meet your son…”
