The sharp shrill of metal scraping against porcelain echoed piercingly throughout the dark, murky room; the eerie reverberation almost soothing to those present. A cautious gaze lifted from its bountiful feast as it took in the wooden floor, now scratched and gouged by years of worn. Splinters rose like the hairs at the back of her neck, and she could almost feel those jagged chips of wood prick through her delicate skin.
Refusing to acknowledge defeat, however, Hermione Granger straightened in her seat and returned her gaze back to the table; silently watching her new “family” eat in hushed disdain.

She could see Snape from the corner of her eye as he ate in silence, his beady black eyes never leaving his plate. She watched him chew and gnaw at his food, his jaws clenching and unclenching with every bite as his lanky hair swayed slightly from the movement.
He disgusted her.
“Is there a particular reason why you are staring at me like a vulture in heat, Granger?”
Raising her chin tautly, she narrowed her eyes before resting her gaze upon the shiny silverware, glistening brightly against the yellowed, torn table cloth.
