A/N: I managed to string a couple of drabbles together again!

“This feels wrong, Remus. Too intrusive.”
“I agree, Hermione, but we are his closest friends, now.”
“That’s terribly sad. I didn’t like him as a Professor and hardly knew him from the Order. And you two fought continually.”
“Strangely, that’s how he showed his regard. He completely ignored those he didn’t like.”
“Ah, here we are,” Remus said, running his wand over a smallish mahogany box. “Not overly warded.”
Hermione mumbled a simple spell and opened the box. Inside, nestled in dark green velvet was a medal--Order of Merlin, 1st class.
“Professor Snape never got one of these--whose is it?”

Hermione examined the medal. “Remus, the reverse has engraving--A.P.W.B.D.--Dumbledore--”
“And look, there is a parchment under the velvet. Read it, Remus.”
“Dear Severus, accept this as a token of my esteem. I fear the Wizarding World will be a bit myopic regarding your contributions to the Light. Dear boy, I deeply regret the great personal cost my requests exacted from you. You are the bravest and truest man I’ve ever known. Seek happiness, Severus. Forgive yourself. You deserve it. Yours, Albus.”
“That’s why Albus was buried without his medal. He’d given it to Severus.”
“If only we’d found this sooner...”
