He had been monumentally foolish, but he loved her, and at one point, she loved him too. She had to; he 'd screwed up, and she 'd forgiven him over and over- she had to feel something. When he saw the red roses he thought of her, his love ... he was a fool.
When he left the shop he could already see her smile and hear her laughter. He turned the corner to Apparate, but he stopped when he saw her standing outside of the apothecary. His heart stopped. She was beautiful, and the fact that she wasn't vain made her even more so. He straightened his robes, ran his fingers through his bright red hair to tame it, and walked to meet her at the shop window. She turned, and her face lit up. He relaxed; she was still his Hermione. His stride became more confident, and he stopped to take in the sight of her, to commit this moment to memory. He opened his mouth, but his words were cut short when a tall gentleman swept her up into his arms and kissed her passionately. Ron 's heart sank. The gentleman-or scoundrel in Ron's opinion-released her and took her hand. They walked up the path, leaving him standing there shaking with restrained rage. Before they were out of sight, the gentlemen turned and smirked at Ron... He crushed the roses like she'd just crushed his heart. She hadn't just taken up with another man; it was Snape.
He walked after them, followed by a trail of blood from the thorns piercing his hand.
