Fading

They were always kept in a place of pride. Whenever Miss Granger visited his office, she could see them hanging behind a glass frame. When Professor Snape would referee a match, they would come out, sparkling as if they had been newly purchased.

When their children were born, Severus protected the robes with extra spells and watched fondly as the children zoomed around the house, the robes far too big for them. When they were old enough to ride their own brooms, Severus donned the green robes once again and flew around the back garden teaching the boys the rules.

The robes usually remained behind the glass. Their color had faded over time. Now what once was a bright Slytherin green was now faded and worn.

Hermione entered his study quietly, noticing her husband sitting in his favorite chair. The glass frame had been opened and she could see him gently fingering the robes.

Hermione walked slowly over to him. He looked up, his wrinkled tired eyes looking into hers.

She gently sat on his lap and laced her fingers through his gray hair.

“They were good days, Hermione.”

Hermione smiled, knowing how much he missed the freedom of flying.
