It was as though all of the colour had drained from the room. Everything seemed too muted, as though draped in a thin layer of dust to dull the vibrant tones. And with the colours went his other senses as well.
The taste in his mouth turned sour as his fingers curled around the doorknob, and the bitter chill of the wind outside never sent a shiver along his spine.
All the force of his anger went into slamming the door as he left, but even as he watched it rattle on its hinges, the sound never reached his ears.
