Severus strode through the castle corridors towards his beloved's chambers, a bottle of wine in hand. He didn't go as far as whistling a jaunty tune, but there was a definite spring in his step. Her door opened on his first knock; he stepped forward with open arms, ready to embrace his girlfriend.

'Achoo.'

Severus took a step back from said girlfriend, eyeing her critically. She was smiling at him, though her smile looked a little on the wobbly side. Her eyes were too bright and her skin too flushed-and not the kind of flushed he liked to see.

'You've got a cold,' he stated.

'Bollocks, I'm fine.' Hermione's answer was followed by a fit of coughing.

'Uh-huh.'

'Achoo.

'Maybe a little one,' admitted Hermione.

Severus was a man of action, so he tucked her into bed and disappeared through the Floo to swap the bottle of wine for a vial of Pepperup Potion.

By the time he returned, the love of his life was fast asleep, snoring gently.

Snape conjured a mug of chamomile tea, put it under a warming charm and placed it on her bedside table. Then, he settled into the chair next to her bed.

Severus's eyes snapped open as Hermione mumbled something. A quick spell confirmed that she was still running a fever. He bent closer to her to hear what she was saying.

'Snow.'

'Sorry?' He hoped she wasn't delusional on top of everything else.

'Snow. Thereneverissnowforchristmashere.' Hermione sounded miserable.

'Yes, dear.' Severus pulled her close to him and tipped the vial of Pepperup to her lips.

She swallowed and then fell asleep again in his embrace, her ears still steaming gently.

Severus lowered her back onto the bad. A look out of the window confirmed that there wasn't a snowflake in sight.

Something soft was tickling her nose. Hermione opened her eyes and looked up at a beautiful wintry sky. Snowflakes drifted gently towards the bed. She blinked. It took her a minute to realise that she felt a lot better than last night. Not a fever dream, then.

She vaguely remembered that Severus had put her to bed and something about wanting snow for Christmas. It took her another minute to notice the small Christmas tree next to the bed. It too was covered with snow, and coloured fairy lights were twinkling merrily. Beneath it was a small heap of presents.

Severus was stretched out next to her, still in last night's robes and sound asleep. Hermione got up, and after a stop in the bathroom to freshen up, went down to the kitchen to fetch some breakfast. No need to bother the house-elves on Christmas morning.

Back upstairs, she set the tray down on the bedside table and slipped back into bed. She placed a kiss on Severus's nose and then another on his mouth. One sleepy eye opened.

Hermione smiled. 'Happy Christmas, my love. And thank you.'

'No idea what you mean,' Severus answered, looking perfectly innocent. 'Happy Christmas.'
