Fleeing the failed Battle of Hogwarts, he and the indomitable Miss Granger had been on the run for seven months, twenty-nine days. Severus rubbed his hands, fearing the days ahead.
She kneeled before him, lips parted as if to speak. Whether it was tradition or loneliness, she didn’t say, but midnight, Hermione's lips touched his.
His bones were frozen, yet oh his lips were burning. Behind closed eyelids, he saw silver and gold exploding.
It was fire for poor folks, but holding her tight, Severus felt so warm and so very wealthy.
Seven months, thirty days.
