No sooner than he had asked Hermione to fetch the hellebore from his spare storage cupboard, Severus realised his mistake and sprinted after her.
Too late.
She had found the thing, and was staring at it curiously.
‘Severus, what on earth is this doing here?’
Severus felt his face burn with mortification, but attempted to appear nonchalant. He knew he had failed to fool her when she grinned broadly.
‘Severus, is this yours?’
He mumbled something unintelligible, but the game was up.
‘Severus, you big softie! It’s adorable!’ So saying, she scooped up and began cuddling his pet Pygmy Puff.
