It sounds like a nice nursery rhyme (have you noticed how absurd nursery rhymes often are?), and it's a nice story of hope.

I think nursery rhymes quite often conceal a grain of truth or history behind the absurdity.

That they do. Some of the mot popular French ones speak of rejection, eating a human being, refusing to help, being eaten, favoring wealth, etc.

LOL they're not all about eating, but those ones (promenons-nous dans les bois and il était un petit navire) are more or less stuck in my mind for the time being.
