Traditionally, the best man is there to steer the groom through the most important day of his life, make sure he shows up on time, and make an embarrassing speech during the wedding dinner.
And Lucius Malfoy was a big supporter of traditions.
Except when they got in his way.
So, on Severus' big day, Lucius thoroughly drugged his friend's breakfast tea, took his wand away from him, and locked him in one of the cells of Malfoy Manor's cellar.
Then, he went to the ceremony, and married a Granger too devastated by Severus' desertion to refuse him her hand.
