The flash of green almost went unnoticed. The world didn’t stop when its hero fell to the ground with eyes frozen open in shock.
Hermione thought this was monumentally unfair. Around her the battle continued to rage. A battle they could not win.
Someone in black flew past her, it took a moment to realize it was Severus, and then it was too late. That precious moment was all it took for Voldemort to strike the man she loved with another bolt of green.
Hermione wanted to scream. But she couldn’t. The dead don’t get to scream. Just to watch.
