A Few Minutes More.
Severus entered the bed chambers where his two favourite ladies lay sleeping. Emily was just three weeks old, but already Hermione was fretful with the effects of sleep deprivation.
She'd repeatedly refused Severus’ offer of a calming draught or dreamless sleep.
“It’s all very well, but what if Emily NEEDS me when I’m half comatose?”
“Hermione, I know I used to be a death eater, but I am quiet sure I can handle a 21-day-old-infant for a couple of hours” He’d reply to her argument.
As he looked into the Moses basket Emily started to stir, and scooping her up gently he walked through to the lounge.

“Hush now Miss Snape, your mummy needs her sleep. You’ve only just had a fresh nappy and been fed.”
Severus used a light breathy voice to communicate with the greatest gift anyone could have given him. He had thought his proudest moment had been when Hermione agreed to be his wife, then when they had exchanged their vows, but these paled when his eyes fell on his beautiful new-born daughter.
Rocking gently in the chair by the fire, Severus held Emily close to his chest. It wasn’t long before they were both asleep gently snoring.

Hermione awoke at 6am. Stretching, she was surprised to find herself alone in bed.
As she began to process her surroundings she realised that not only was Severus missing, but Emily was not in her basket either.
Grabbing her dressing grown she padded quietly through to the lounge. She’d only taken a few steps when she spotted Severus cradling Emily close to his heart.
Her heart swelled with love for the pair as they snoozed gently what would the Headmasters’ colleagues think if they could see him now as he cradled his infant daughter close to that once stone-cold heart.
