fantastically exciting news!!!
so, this afternoon, the neonatologist called me to touch base an catch me up on some of the changes they've decided to implement in the boys' treatment plan. they are starting to mix my breast milk with formula to supplement their nutrition and ensure they are getting enough vitamins at a 1:1 ratio. so now they will be offered 40 ccs of milk/formula per feeding, and then add more if they'll eat it. this is officially called "full feedings" and was the last milestone they needed to hit before they'd seriously talk about discharging them. so after the doctor informed me about the milk changes, she said that if they continue to eat well and gain weight (which should be no problem, formula fattens babies up) they can come home in 48 hours!!!!! that means that i'll have my precious babies here with me at home at the end of this weekend! no more nicu treks!!!
i can't even describe how elated i am at the thought of having them at home with me and not having to worry about what the nurses would say about how i'm changing them, or swaddling them, or cuddling them! i spent this evening putting tons of baby things away because it's strewn all over the apartment and if we only have 2 days until they're here, there's still so much to do! hopefully things will come together a bit more tomorrow and i'm hoping to set up the carseats and make sure they'll fit a teeny baby. but now i must sleep, all of this breast pumping is exhausting!
