Chaos?

What is going on in this place? I've been hearing talk of sandstorms, even though there's heavy snow, buildings are in ruins... and ever since I arrived here I've seen huge fissures through the ground. What's happened here? Is it always like this?
I'm glad that Myoubi and I have found an empty house to stay in, especially if the conditions here are so dangerous. But I'm sure that there are a lot of people who haven't found shelter yet. This house has quite a number of rooms. Would anyone else like to come and join us? If so let us know and we'll give directions.
On our search for an empty house we saw the sand for ourselves. It's mixed in with the snow so unlike the fresh whiteness in the park, it almost looks muddy. It's a shame.
