[action / audio]

[Roy clasps Dr. Marcoh's hand, the Philosopher's Stone warm between their palms.

Suddenly, that warmth is gone, and he has to close his hand quickly to keep from dropping the stone.]

Dr. Marcoh?

[He stands carefully. Did the seat beneath him change? Was there something different about the floor?]

Dr. Marcoh!

[Another voice that the Colonel won't know! But accent aside, Roy might pick up that there's a hint of something official in his tone, from having worked in a kind of military. Might, he tries to hide it, but one can only hide that so much.]

I'm afraid there's no doctors going by either name here.

[So many voices! By now Roy has settled himself back on the bench, having explored his cell to the fullest extent possible.]

So it seems. I've been told this is a place called "Adstringendum." Do you know much about it?

[Yes, Roy is definitely picking up on a hint of soldier. A soldier for this place, perhaps? He'll have to tread carefully.]

[Eliot's picking up something distinctively military as well. A thought to set aside, at least. There's a bit of a singular laugh.]

Afraid not. I only arrived a week ago, myself. You probably also heard that this place is that there's places and people from different worlds and times too, I take it.

I've heard something to that effect. Part of some scientific experiment?

It seems so, yes. Most people are good enough, so you'll probably receive more thorough information from veteran residents such as a Miss Unohana and a younger man named Ed Elric.

Edward Elric?

[Congratulations! You have elicited legitimate emotion. That emotion being surprise.]

You know Edward Elric?

I wouldn't say 'know,' but we talked some a short time after I arrived here.

You should know that we've had people from the same worlds arrive, but not from the same time, if this is the Edward Elric from your world.

Hmm.

[slight tone change, perfectly innocent to most people but Eliot could probably pick up on the falseness]

But how rude of me! You've been so kind, and I don't even know your name.

[Well, he's no Sophie, but he also respects that people have their reasons when they do that.]

Just as I don't know yours. The name's Kenneth Crane.

[And no rank added to that, despite that undercurrent tone of military.]

Roy Mustang. [If this man isn't going to list his title, why should he?

It's not like it has much meaning here anyway.]

[There's a bit of a pause before the reply comes. Eliot Kenneth was expecting to hear some sort of rank as well, and he saw that there were other replies to the post. He couldn't figure it out right off, so he'll just save that for later!]

So, you had a close relationship to Ed back home?

[That makes Roy laugh a little.]

You could say. He might resent the accusation.

Only if he chooses to, seeing as it's no accusation. Could mean anything from teammates, comrades in some cause, you being his guardian or a family friend, among other things.

Perhaps a little of all the above.

I believe the rules of polite conversation require that I ask something about you. Nobody likes a man who talks only about himself. [aka he doesn't want to give anything else away]

Do you have any friends here? From your world, I mean.

Of course.

[In other words, he understands wanting to shift the focus. It's not polite to push and find everything about someone.]

It depends on how you look at it whether it's fortunate or not, but there's no one here from my world. I'm not sure my manager or sound technician would do well in this environment in the first place.
