[It's evening by the time Roy makes his way to the jail where Sokka has been spending his time. This is the first chance he's had to see the young man since the incident at the tea shop, which he regrets.

He knocks lightly on the door.]

Anyone home?

[Sokka grabs up his homemade oil burning lamp and stands from where he was laying on his dingy cot.] Back here. [The door to the cell is open, but he's obviously making no plans for escape. He brings the lamp with him.]

[Roy carefully makes his way towards Sokka's voice.]

How much time do you plan on serving?

Ahhh... [He's not quite so sure he's thought about it.] Enough. I haven't figured out exactly how much that is, though.

Perhaps you should talk about it with the people you've hurt. I'm sure they have some opinion.

Everyone was ready to forgive me. They told me to go home.

Then why do you stay?

Because I was wrong for doing what I did and if we're going to employ justice here, there needs to be real consequences.

Even for actions out of your control?

That... depends.

If I think the people who killed my friend should be held accountable, then I should be willing to hold myself accountable whether it was out of my control or not. Which it wasn't -- I could have stopped.
