So returning to college has prompted a post from me. Ignore the fact that I moved in nearly a week ago.
The most amusing thing by far is my room situation. For those of you who don't know, I didn't pay my housing deposit last semester (I kept getting these reminders to pay my deposit and was kind of like "wazzat? doesn't concern me, I think"). I like to boast that my room is the third least desirable room on campus, since there were only two people left in the "no deposit" line behind me during housing lottery.
That being said, the disadvantages of my dorm, Unit H, have been mitigated. It doesn't have air conditioning, but I made my allergies work for me and was able to get a window unit because of them, so a/c is no problem. The only downsides really are that the location isn't central, there are only two showers to sixteen people, and the whole dorm is heavily frat-influenced. All of these nuiscances I cope with through minor alterations in regular behaivior (and I just kind of ignore the frat people; they're somewhat amusing anyways).
What really makes my room suddenly take on a certain degree of awesomeness is that my roommate is nowhere to be seen. I have never met my would-be roommate, a man by the name of Vincent. At the housing lotter, I was given a list of rooms I could choose from and the people who would be my roommate given my room choice, so I arbitrarily chose Vincent as my roommate since I think that's a cool name. I e-mailed him before school started, but never got a response, and I wasn't provided any other way to contact him, so we've not communicated in any way. Well, a week after move-in and he hasn't shown up, so it looks like this room is all mine. My assumption is he decided to live off-campus and simply didn't bother to tell me.
I have no ill will towards Vincent. I've never met him, so he might be a really cool guy. Having a double serve as my own single, however, is just too convenient to not be happy with.
Other than that, my first few classes went fine. While the professors vary in lecturing capability, they all seem like very nice people, so I'm happy.
I guess another interesting event that's occurred recently was Hurricane Ernesto yesterday. Classes were cancelled, but I still sat my 8 AM class because the e-mail informing everyone of this wasn't sent until 7:58 AM. A professor wandered in at the end of that class and then told everyone the news. I went back to my dorm and spent the rest of the day drying and unsucessfully tried to take a nap when the power went out for a few hours. Ok, I suppose it really wasn't that interesting.
Well, I guess that's pretty much how my college experience has been so far.
