Here is an amazing speech transcript by a fabulous feminist talking about how all the hand-wringing about how damaging "hook-up" culture is is actually an effort to control women's sexuality and encourage a return to traditional gender roles. The comments on the speech are very interesting, too, and a few people offer some stories about how they experienced hook up culture a bit differently.
It touches on stuff like the conservative concern that giving girls an HPV vaccine will "encourage promiscuity" so they have been trying to block free administration of the vaccine to low-income girls and women- or indeed, administration of the vaccine to anyone, at all.
It also addresses the utter, UTTER lack of any hand wringing by these same people about how bad hook-up culture is for men. Oh, the old sexual double standard, how we love it.
