So all in all I am pretty excited. Having recieved a Bachelor's degree from an accredited, four-year private liberal arts university I am now at a community college taking music classes. I guess you can call me a music student because I am only taking music classes (finally!) but I'm sad because there are no Japanese classes for me to take :( I am taking musicianship, theory, piano (omg my piano teacher is a total hunk), lessons, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, chamber ensemble, and improvisational writing with Sibelius. This is still my first week of class so I'm still in that awkward transitioning phase just trying to get a feel for my surroundings and finding my "niche." Everyone seems pretty cool so far and I even met some old friends from back in high school! I think music students, outside of Soka :p, are some of the nicest people you will meet. I think it has to do with what music ultimately is....a form of expression meant to better understand ourselves and to bring people together. That's why everyone should be involved musically somehow, formal or informal. I can even feel the difference in the faculty. The music faculty have been so kind in helping me make sure that I get the right classes and that I best prepare myself for a transfer. But when I went to talk to the foreign language department to see if I could take Japanese somewhere else for credit or if they would even offer a high level course, the first an only answer that I got was a shrug of the shoulders and told to go look online. Not even an offer to meet the Japanese faculty or information on where to look online. So yes, music people are great :)
