The clickbait link for this was “Seriously, Never Say Any Of These Things To Black Men Again,” so, really, Huffington Post landed a little bit away from the point again; nothing new there.
Apart from making me feel even older than usual, this short makes me feel really weary and a smidge hopeless, in a very Orpheus Descending solitary-confinement-inside-our-own-skins sense.
And then we have
Gay Wyatt Cenac hiding in there, being comic and mulatto, true to his brand, but without the incredibly stilted writing/performing of Day Drunk Gays.
What's most unsettling about this piece, though, is that my usual reaction to finding greater points of identification like this is to feel a little better, a little more personally secure to find out that “it's not just me,” but in this particular moment, I feel neutral to worse.
Very old and very alone in it.
