Milan: Frida Giannini for Gucci. Fall 2015 Menswear Collection.
Many people have been confused by this collection. I've been more inclined to question myself than these clothes. Everything is so long and androgynous, it puts me in the mind of some kind of atypically stylish urban omnisexual San Francisco genderfuck hippie commune in 1969 - but in a good way. (Mostly. The collection is not without a certain degree of absurdity.)
The brand is in the middle of a transition, with Frida Giannini departing the company mere days before this collection was presented. It's best in my mind not to attempt seeing this as a collection. The general ambiguity of the garments, particularly with the specific styling choices, while it appeals to a certain countercultural sensibility in me, is going to have limited commercial appeal in most markets. "Upscale thrift shop finds" is perhaps a class unto itself, and a male archetype that's been elusive since Mick Jagger was young.
And I have been having too many strange dreams lately, too.
