the oddest thing
Something Bill Maher sad in this most recent show (the penultimate for this “season,” dammit) kind of smacked me as I heard it. To paraphrase:
In the evangelical flavor of Christianity (though I suppose you could apply it across the board in the Religions of the Book, with the proper interpretive filters), homosexuality doesn’t exist, there are merely straight people who undertake to engage in a particular sin. (Repeatedly or persistently, in many cases, or maybe that’s just me.)
Okay, I can buy that rationale. I think it’s bullshit for people to believe, but what do I know? Anyway, that’s the nearest-accurate explanation for heterosexism I’ve heard from a comedian-turned-political pundit in a while.
