I have bad taste in books

Kwantlen went on strike. Tomorrow it'll be normal. Gee, then what's the point?

I went to the library yesterday and borrowed the Photoshop Bible and a novel. The Bible's pretty interesting but the novel...?
It's called Kushiel's Chosen. A red flag should've been raised by just the title. But I promised myself to at least finish a novel this year.
I think the heroine is a MarySue.
Just look at her name.
"I am Phèdre nó Delauny de Montrève, [insert: you killed my father]."

She seemed to have an angsty past, as described in the first paragraph of the beginning chapter. Everything she owns is "torn" from her, oh the wangst. Her mom sold her to "servitude" to the Court of Night-Blooming Flowers at the tender age of 4. Her mentor was slain (I wouldn't be surprised if she witnessed it), and someone dear to her betrayed her.
She's been the plaything of a barbarian warlord, and has lost her friends to an eternity of lonely isolation.

She's apparently very beautiful, but I inferred that from the summary in the back, and knows a lot of languages. She's the Kushiel's Chosen, clearly marked by "the mote of scarlet embazzled since birth  in the iris of [her] left eye."
WTF???
She's also destined to find pleasure in pain....er, yeah.
Keep in mind that this is described in the first page.

She also has a romantic relationship with Joscelin who's her bodyguard or something. For what reason I don't know. They love each other but that cannot be (gag!) for he vowed himself to some other girl and Phèdre to some schmuck.

And people wonder why I don't like reading anymore.
