I just finished my run of Legacy of the Crystal Shard and will be playing in Tyranny of Dragons run by James. As always, we randomly rolled a bunch of our basic character information and I got a half-orc fighter. After I located a miniature I liked for her, this quickly developed into the fully developed of Naga - my attempt to celebrate the full glory and terror of motherhood :)
Ngaiathel's Background: Ngaiathel, or Athel as she was known to her people, grew up in a small village called Snowy Gate. It was situated on the southern side of Many Arrows on the road to Dwarven city of Mithral Hall. Her people were a mix of orc and barbaric humans, and the subjects of King Obould in the north.
Athel had talents in speaking with others, especially to those from outside the closely knit community. She became the Speaker for the village at a young age, and made her name in negotiating a difficult surrender from stubborn Dwarves. When she came of age, Athel married her lover, Ofric, who had risen to be Snowy Gate’s head warrior. He was powerful fighter, yet he was also clever with eyes set firmly on the future. Together they managed to make the first steps towards trade relations with the Dwarves to the south.
As their prosperity grew, they had three children - Throag, Garren, and Voiry. Due to his size, Athel had to cut Throag from her own belly as she sheltered in a cave. Her first born took after his father and when he came of age he was recruited into the Black Bow, an elite warrior force under King Obould’s command. Garren and Voiry shared their mother’s characteristics and both remained in Snowy Gate.
Last winter, all this changed. Shadowy forces started to move against Ofric and Athel, jealous of the power they were accumulating. Before they could warn them, their allies were methodically murdered. Despite the signs the growing conspiracy, Athel ignored them; the guilt of which now torments her still. Ofric was framed as a traitor, supposedly selling the secrets of the Many Arrows to Mithral Hall. He was quickly put to death. As young Garren rushed to defend his father, Throag slew him without mercy. In a mother’s anguish, Athel gutted Throag with his own axe. For her acts, her tusks were removed and her lips stained with blood red tattoos of shame. Also, sweet Voiry was taken from her and sold as a slave to a half-orc called Bog Luck, for his assistance with unmasking Ofric’s treachery.
Her family gone, Athel went into exile carrying only the haft of her husband’s greataxe as a staff, Throag’s blood-stained battleaxe, and the two handaxes of her youngest children. She left her name behind, adopting “Naga” instead. She wanders the Sword Coast seeking for any sign of Bog Luck or her gentle Voiry.
Naga is a powerful woman. With her tusks removed, her orc heritage only shows in her stature (6’3” and 220 lbs) and her pale complexion. Though she believes that strength is the greatest of all virtues, her guilt ridden dreams have also taught her to listen to more than just what can be heard; and always look beneath the surface.
My plan is for her to be 60% Fighter (for battlefield control and support), 35% Bard (for subtle divination and healing), and 5% Barbarian (for rage and going skyclad).
