Character: Isaac
Series/Fandom: Golden Sun
Deviance: 1
Age: ~19
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Canon Used: Game (original canon)
Appearance: Isaac is of an average hight and build for a boy of his age and background - his face speaks of his youth and his bright blue eyes speak of his innocence. He's humble and shy looking, his face half-hidden under a mop of golden hair. For clothing, Issac favours a long-sleeved blue tunic and matching pants, over which he wears a red and gold breastplate. A long yellow scarf is fixated around his neck at all times, along with an ever-present pair of gloves on his hands and boots on his feet.
Psychology: Now this is a tough one. Throughout the first game, Isaac is a silent hero, and through much of the second, he's absent, though he gains himself a few lines. This makes him harder to pin down than the rest of the cast. HOWEVER we are given hints at how Isaac handles himself, even before he gets a speaking role. How I play Isaac will be largely extrapolated from this.
Isaac is canonically well-liked by the people of his town. He is a caring and helpful young man, even though his mother calls him stubborn. Events in both games reveal him to be a level-headed, hard working young man with a strong sense of justice and loyalty. Isaac is the type to take full responsibility for his actions (hence the ENTIRE GAME), and he's certainly enough of a man to take responsibility for things his companions have done as well.
Much of his maturity likely stems from Isaac losing his father during a storm when he was fourteen (an event that still eats at him). He was forced to step up as 'Man of the House' not just for his mother, but for his dear friend Jenna, who had lost her entire family in the same night. However, being a 17 year old boy, he has a strong sense of adventure, sharing his friend Garet's desire to someday see the Ocean (saying nothing of the many side-dungeons that can be explored presumably with Isaac's consent, if it wasn't his idea in the first place). A broken promise weighs heavily on Isaacs mind as can be seen late in 'The Lost Age,' when Isaac's demeanor becomes considerably more abrasive due to his failure in reaching Lemuria as he had once promised. At the same time, Isaac is a realist, and will not commit to something he deems impossible. Unfortunately, his definition of "impossible" is fairly narrow.
In general, however, Isaac is lovable, pleasant and loyal- a strong fighter for any cause in which he believes in.
Other Skills/Abilities: Isaac is god an Adept. The term "Adept" refers to a handful of people who have the ability to channel what's known as "Alchemy." The channeled power, otherwise known as 'Psynergy' manifests to one of four elements, Earth, Fire, Wind or Water. (Kind of like Benders, from Avatar, but not as stupid looking 8D) Isaac is an Earth Adept. This grants him abilities like calling on the wrath of Gaia, moving things with his mind, and the ability to heal up small to moderate injuries, to name a few. Depending on what he's carrying, he may know more or less than what would be considered "Normal"
Isaac can also call on the assistance of elemental spirits known as "Djinni" to help him in battle. They also have far-ranging effects. I won't list them here, for there are over 72, split into 4 elements and they all do different things. Isaac can have up to nine Djinn at a time from any element he so pleases. If he unleashes the power of enough Djinn, Isaac can summon larger spirits to blow the ever loving shit out of whoever is unfortunate enough to get in the way.
On the more corporeal level, Isaac is canonically one of the two strongest characters in the game, rivaled only by one other - he has amazing hitting power, and is exceptionally fast considering his equipment, which can consist of things ranging from heavy swords or rapiers to maces to axes and heavy armor.
Other Weaknesses: Despite any amazing powers that his Psynergy may grant, Isaac is a flesh and blood human. He can be stabbed, shot, kicked, beaten, raped, killed, dismembered, broken, manipulated, and what have you. Without his Djinn, or if he has a bad combination of Djinn, he is considerably weaker, as well.
History: Isaac was born in Vale, the town of Adepts, built in the shadow of Mount Aleph. Isaac was the only child in his family, and was loved dearly by his mother, Dora, and his father, Kyle.
Isaac grew up happily on the mountainside with his friends Garet, and the siblings Jenna and Felix. All four, like almost everyone in the village, were Adepts, thanks to not only the mountain and it's sacred contents, but also the large psynergy stone at the foot of their village. Despite their powers, none of the four really studied or trained them. Aside from his friends, Isaac was also fond of visiting Kraden the scholar (and probably the only non-adept in the village).
One night, when Isaac was fourteen, he was roused from his sleep and hurried out of the house by his worried mother. It was storming - one of the worst storms Vale had ever seen. The heavy rainfall was causing mudslides down the mountain, carrying debris and boulders that were crashing into the village. Dora told Isaac to round up his friends and hurry to the town square - they'd be safer there.
Along the way, Isaac came across the town elders using their Psynergy to hold up what seemed to be the mother of all boulders. Farther down was an even more dire sight - Felix had fallen in the river that ran through the town, and was limply holding onto a jutting pole lest he be lost under the currents. His parents, as well as Kyle were nearby, trying to help him. Isaac being Isaac immediately sought reinforcements, but was too late. Far above them, the boulder slipped away from the hold of the Elders and came crashing down. It took Felix, his parents, and Kyle with it.
Distraught, Isaac left the scene, but along the way, he and Garet were intercepted by a pair of strange people who proceeded to use their fire psynergy to render the pair out cold. Neither Isaac nor Garet have any recollection of meeting these people.
The next we know of is three years later. Isaac, Garet and Jenna spent the time studying the workings of Psynergy under the tutelage of Kraden. He one day decides to take the trio on a trip up the mountain to Sol Sanctum - the most sacred place in Vale, and usually forbidden to enter.
After many harrowing traps, tricks and puzzles they came across the mountain's true treasure - the Elemental Star room, said to hold the keys to unleash a formidable power - Alchemy. What they did not know, however, was that they were being followed. As Isaac and Garet went to collect the stars for further investigation, four strangers took Kraden and Jenna hostage, demanding that the boys turn over the Stars in exchange for the safety of their friends. As a guarantee that no harm would come to the pair, one of the strangers removed his mask. It was Felix. The other three were introduced as Saturos, Menardi and Alex. Though Isaac did not remember them, Saturos and Menardi were the pair he'd met on the stormy night three years prior.
Having only three at the time, Garet handed over the Mercury, Venus and Jupiter Stars while Isaac went to collect the last one - the Mars star. However, the second he picked it up, the mountain began to shake violently, and the room began collapsing around them. Mt. Aleph, now revealed as a dormant volcano, was erupting. From the depths of the room rose the mountain's ancient protector, the Wise One. The villainous party, knowing that fighting here would be foolish, escaped with their two hapless captives, and leaving Garet and Isaac to fend for themselves.
Luckily, The Wise One held off the eruption for some time, instead, charged the boys with the recovery of the other Elemental Stars, emphasizing that under no circumstances should they allow the corresponding Lighthouses to be lit, lest the world meet its end. He then teleported Isaac and Garet outside, releasing the hold on the volcano's eruption.
Nothing of value was lost, but Mt. Aleph belched up hundreds of Psynergy stones that fell all over the place, both corrupting the local wildlife and spontaneously causing Adept-hood in anyone unfortunate enough to get bonked on the head with one.
Several days later, Isaac and Garet, amidst teary farewells, leave their hometown for the first time in their lives. So begins the tale of Golden Sun.
Hardly the next morning, in the neighboring town of Vault, Isaac wanders into a peculiar-looking shop.....
Isaac has since been canonbumped to the end of his canon. Because the game is fairly intricate, and writting out the whole thing will take more time than I have, I shall summarize it for you:
- Isaac and Garet meet a boy in Vault named Ivan who happens to be a Jupiter(wind) adept. Ivan has lost his rod. Isaac and Garet help him get it back.
- In an atempt to get back to his home, Ivan again meets with Isaac and GAret at a nearby cave, revealing that the bridge that would otherwise get him home to Kalay has been wrecked. Isaac and Garet agree to go with him, since Ivan knows more about the area than they do.
- Travel eventually takes them to the town of Kolima, which is under a curse from the nearby forest. The boys venture in and find Tret, the leader of the forest and eventually break the curse on him. However, Tret reveals that he is slowly dying.
- They continue north to the frozen town of Imil, whereupon they meat Mia, a young Mercury(water) adept who has been charged with protecting the nearby Mercury lighthouse. The lighthouse, however, lights up. THe team races up the spire to find that Saturos and co has beat them there, and that the Mercury Beacon is shining. They fight Saturos, but he backs out of the combat because of the negative effect the lighthouse has on him. Alex helps him escape.
- They take some water from the lighthouse and bring it back to Tret. He stops dying. From there, they pass through Kolima, Mogul Forest, and a monestary. There, they meet Master Hama, a wise Jupiter Adept who seemed to have a connection to Ivan, and taught him the ability 'reveal'.
-They eventually make it through the evil Lamarkan Desert to Xian, and from there, Altin where they have to clear out a flooded mine from the monsters that are doing the flooding.
Reality Description: Isaac lives on Weyard! It's a world that's Flat. I'm not kidding, it's FLAT. ANYWAYS, it consists of several continents and many islands. At this point in Isaac's story, the most important continents are Angara and Gondowan, but the scope of his adventure will eventually increase.
Weyard, once upon a time, played host to a fearsome force known as alchemy. The reasons why are unknown, but Alchemy was long ago sealed away, it's four elements being shut away into a respective lighthouse. For the Earth stood Venus Lighthouse, nestled near the equator of the world in northeast Gondowan. For Fire stood Mars Lighthouse up past the northern reaches where the snow falls endlessly. For Wind was Jupiter Lighthouse, on the faraway continent of Atteka, and finally, for Water was Mercury Lighthouse, shining on the northern coast of Angara. The power of alchemy can only be unleashed by tossing the four Elemental Stars into their respective lighthouse beacon, therefore lighting the four lighthouses and unleashing the power they contained.
For thousands of years the lighthouses stood unlit, and Alchemy began to fade in the world, save for a few pockets of places where it ran strong in certain groups of people - places like Vale, Lemuria, Prox and Garou. Unbeknown to most of the citizens of Weyard, the world is slowly eroding without Alchemy - literally fraying at the edges, crumbling away to Gaia Falls.
Isaac's adventure will carry him from one end of the world to the other, and he will see many different peoples and cultures and technologies on his trip, but Weyard constantly remains in it's niche of Typical Fantasy land. There are the usual monsters, Humanoid-but-not-human races (Namely the Proxians, Dwarves, Lemurians and Garouvians), helpful spirits (the Djinn), flying boats, elixirs of youth, yadda yadda yadda.
And, of course, there's Psynergy. Funny little force that is, in that it's only usable by Adepts and normal people can't see it. Well, they can see the effects, but not the power itself. FOR INSTANCE, if Isaac used Move, he'd see a giant hand materialize and push his target. Other adepts would see that as well. Billy Joe Bob on the street? Would see the object move, but not what made it move.
There's not much else to say about Weyard. There are a million and one magical special hard-to-find dungeons, a pair of big oceans and way WAY too many mountains. It's kind of boring :/
