Well... just watched Grey's Anatomy...
I mostly liked it, which is why I'm actually posting anything related to it.
Finally Meredith is addressing her abandonment issues... finally. Granted, it's about half a season later than it should be, but I actually like how they're handling it. I liked the parallels between her and sky-diving dude (aka Roy from The Office!!! Right? That was him, right? That was majorly awesome.) Although it does totally seem like they're setting it up for Derek to move onto someone else and continue the dance of unfulfillment that's been going on for 2 seasons.
This summer the majority said they wanted to see Derek and Mark becoming all BFFy again, and I'm so glad they actually sort of listened. Because pretty much any scene with Mark makes me giggle like a schoolgirl. He's just... oh he's so... giggles. And I like him and Derek being giggly and snarky together. "Pretty and Prettier?" Well at least the writers agree that Mark trumps Derek in the looks department.
I love how Mark enjoys hazing his interns and offers to make Callie's day better by torturing him. That was probably one of my favorite moments this season. And then the whole "O'Malley's been married..." Oh Mark... you're great.
The bird thing...? Way too over the top. Plus... he looks familiar... I think he was on Bones... I think he played an effeminate pale man before. Why is this week the week to reference shows I love more? But yes, the patient giving horrible symbolic references to other birds with the main characters (aside from the one introductory standby actor) was just cheesy and... bad. I didn't like it.
Basically I liked almost everything this week except for Izzie... and by extention anything with Izzie and George. I just can't enjoy any scene with her after her self righteous ("What about MEEEEE!!!") justification for being with Geroge... which apparently I missed because I thought they were waiting until after they were divorced. Then again, Izzie also said she didn't love George... and then that she did, so... there you go.
And I love George, so it's really a feat when I dislike him because of Izzie... then again, I also take issue with the actress, which I don't even need to go into here.
Thing is, it's pretty extraordinary when I like Lexie more than Izzie... pretty damn extraordinary. I still think the best thing ever would be if Izzie had something wrong with her brain, like a tumor which resulted in personality and mood being affected. She could collapse one day, have a CT and omg, lookit, she's in surgery and then all of her behavior beginning with her psychotic Christmas display, growing with her Denny issue, and then climaxing with her sudden revelation that she's in love with her best friend. February sweeps please?
Here's the thing... they're little verbal dance in front of the patients was cute, and they would have been a very cute newlywed couple... had they gotten together without it being adultery. Because it's like ABC as a whole cannot fathom people staying married and happy... this is just one show that has that... it's like the logical progression of relationships isn't boy meets girl, boy and girl get together, boy and girl get married... because there's this final stage which is: boy meets other girl, boy cheats on first girl, boy pines after second girl while mean first girl makes him stick with his vows, boy and first girl get divorced. This is also something that's bothering me with Brothers and Sisters, because if you've got that many married couples, could we please at least have one of them happy and together? Because even if roughly 50% of marriages end in divorce, it's like we only see the 50% that end. So it's not like showing that marriage and relationships are hard, it's like showing that marriage is something to be avoided and wrong. So there, ya go.
But yes, I do sort of like Lexie... mostly because she doesn't get in the way of the cast from Classic Grey's. But she's kind of cute, in a mousey little way. I enjoy her interaction with George and how George kind of dotes on her like a big brother. Plus she was pretty awesome with the "what does your dress look like" to freak the bridezilla into surgery.
Speaking of other cast additions--- Praise be to the ABC execs... Erica Hahn!!! I love her! She's like Addison was when she was all hardcore and didn't get all mopey when her husband chased after someone else. I like her. I liked her before, and I like her still.
Let me be clear... I miss Addison... terribly. I miss Mark/Addison... horribly. And I still wish either Mark would fly to LA or Addison would end her midlife crisis deal, address her issues, realize Mark lied to her, and fly back to Seattle. But until that happens, because it probably won't, I can enthusiastically back Mark/Erica because she's snarky and has got the backbone to go toe-to-toe with him. Although I do wish we would see Mark pining for Addison like we've seen Cristina deal with Burke leaving. But whatever. Her comment about Mark and Derek being together? Yeah, she's pretty much fabulous. I can see Mark being interested in her because she (like Addison) could hold her own in the boy's club. Great casting decision. Nice tie-in to Season 2. Basically all around good move. (But she needs better scrub caps, although, I think Mark's still using the standard issue ones, so maybe she could get him some scrub caps... Lol.)
I really love Mark. I mean, really. He's just... a great character. And he had a good week, and that makes me happy. I loved him and Derek being all buddy-buddy.
Meredith had a good week too. I like seeing her connect with patients because she does really well too.
Alex also had a good week because of the scenes with Lexie. How he pulled her out of the storage closet where she was hiding and then how he got that speech where we got that little insight into whatever's going on with him. And then the very end with Lexie asking him to tell her that he doesn't live with Meredith Grey... omg, I laughed so hard. It was fabulous.
In totally unrelated news, although it does relate to news, my favorite snarky news show ever has recently been bumped back an hour in the early morning... which sucks, majorly. Because 1am CST is totally different than 2am CST... so now I'm back to going to bed at a reasonable hour... which sucks.
Any now... I have to clean this place because my best friend is driving down to hang out this weekend where we'll surely bitch about how I am still not engaged (he and I are great but... agh, whatever) and I need to go to the postoffice and mail some stuff to Les. And let's not start about continuing to apply for jobs.
Anyway, I still need to start reading LJs... it's just very... overwhelming when I haven't done it for awhile, but I'm going to try and start again.
But yeah, surprise... I liked this week. I probably should look into who wrote it this week and see how that fits in, but... why bother? It really did have that fun vibe that I miss, despite the scenes that were dips in the action or a little over-the-top. It was good.
