In the park ((open))

She's snuck out early, having left a note for Simon and Silas saying where she was, and headed off down the street to the park. It was a nice sunny morning and she just couldn't sleep. She'd watched Simon sleep for a while but needed to go out because she would have woken him up otherwise ( Read more... )

He hadn't gotten her note, because he'd been at work, and he didn't know it was her birthday, but Silas wandered over to the park, and specificly the diuck pond, after work. he had a certain affinity for the ducks, and rather liked to feed them bits of bread. It was a mindless way to pass the time, when he had nothing else to do.

She was still sitting there, actually more curled up on the grass just watching the ducks and the day go by. As the day got on though the fun seemed to have drained out of the fact it was her birthday.

You can't celebrate something only one other person knew about.

"River?" Silas said, as he realised he recognised the girl in the grass.

On hearing her name she frowned and lifted herself up and looked over her shoulder, she tilted her head a little when she saw Silas there alone. She wondered where Simon was...had he forgotten?

After a moment she smiled and laid on her front facing him, 'Hello Silas.'

"Beautiful day," he said, though even the most beautiful of days was hard on his skin, and though he no longer wore his wool robe, he wore always a hooded jacket to preotect himself from exposure.

She nodded and looked up at the sky, 'People forget to be people if they don't go outside. Sometimes I forget and time is gone.'

Silas settled himself in the shade of a tree, but didn;'t lower his hood. "I've never been much for the out of doors, I suppose." Despite living on the streets for so many years as a youth. He'd had no choice, then.

'When I was very young we had our lessons under a canopy outside, loved the way it would smell. I loved to dance, sometimes locked inside I felt more like a ghost than a girl.'

She looked up sadly and into his eyes, 'you understand that, don't you.'

Silas nodded thoughtfully. "Often, I was called a ghost. Not a man, at all. My own father...rejected me. No son of his, he'd say."

She nodded. Her parents had done the same to her. Only Simon had been there, had understood and helped her. Neither of tem were their parents any more. Both wanted by the law.

'But you are a man, a good one. Maybe a little broken, but still good.'

"You are one of a very few who think that, but I do appreciate it, River." He felt the corners of his mouth twitch in a small smile.

'You took me in, kept me safe. Understood...Things very few would.' She pulled up some grass and smiled a little playfully before she threw it into his lap.

A sweet smile played on her lips and she leaned into him, her lips pressing softly against his own and her hand cupping his cheek.

'Thank you,' she whispered softly before snuggling against his neck and chest.
